Gorilla Doctors

We are working with Gorilla Doctors, an organization that works to protect and save gorillas in Rwanda, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo from habitat loss, poaching and disease through veterinary care.

When you buy our products with Gorilla themes, you help their mission to protect gorilla populations.

Meet Uburanga the Silverback

Our Hospital is the Forest! Uburanga, the dominant silverback of Hirwa group was observed limping and favoring his back right foot. When mountain gorillas are ill or injured, Gorilla Doctors veterinarians keep a close eye on their condition and only intervene if life-threatening. Uburanga's limp got worse - his health deteriorated and he was moving behind his group. Gorilla Doctors anesthetized Uburanga and took x-rays using a portable x-ray machine that we carried into the forest. Fortunately, he did not have any broken bones. Gorilla Doctors administered antibiotics and conducted a full physical exam. Over time and close monitoring, Uburanga made a full recovery.

Meet the Isimbi Gorilla Group

Mountain gorillas are susceptible to human respiratory diseases and respiratory illness outbreaks are common in wild mountain gorillas. Isimbi group, a family of mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda experienced an outbreak and while most individuals recovered on their own, a few required supportive treatment of antibiotics, anti-inflammatories and fluids administered via dart. To date, no ill gorillas tested by Gorilla Doctors have tested positive for COVID-19.

Meet Theodore

Getting caught in snares is a significant health threat to wild mountain gorillas. Infants are especially vulnerable because they are curious and playful, like Theodore, an infant in the Humba mountain gorilla group in Virunga National Park, DR Congo. When Theodore got caught, Gorilla Doctors rushed to the forest to rescue him and treat his wounds while surrounded by his gorilla family. Theodore made a full recovery but we remain vigilant in the event we receive another emergency call!
