Ghost nets are the result of abandoned or lost fishing nets that float around in the ocean, like a ghost.

These dangerous remains can lead to exhaustion, suffocation, starvation, and the amputation of limbs - leading to the death of millions of marine animals every year.

OPR is Focusing In

Our partner, the Olive Ridley Project, is working hard to determine the source of these nets.

→ Bad Weather Conditions
→ Catch Overload
→ Snagging Net
→ Poor Gear Maintenance
→ High Cost of Net Retrieval
→ No Access to Recycling Facilities
→ Unregulated Fishing Activities
→ Destructive Fishing Techniques

The Sea Turtle Bracelet

Proceeds of each Sea Turtle bracelet go towards our partner, the Olive Ridley Project to help support their mission to remove plastic ghost nets from the ocean and save injured sea turtles.

The Vicious Cycle

Once the weight of an entangled animal sinks the net to the bottom of the ocean, smaller scavengers feed - releasing the net. The net then will float up to the surface starting the cycle all over again. Since modern netting is so durable,
this vicious cycle can last for decades.

NOT ONLY MARINE ANIMALS

Vulnerable Coral Reefs
Ghost nets suffocate live reefs while simultaneously introducing new parasites and invasive species to the environment.
